Life is Mission – Finishing Strong

Wow! What a week! It is amazing to think back on how fast the week seems to have gone. The team accomplished a lot this week. God blessed this team with some skilled laborers who were excited, willing, and eager to completely pour themselves out to meet the needs of others. When there was a need, the team didn’t hesitate to meet it. Equipment was rented, teams were flexible with going to new ministries wherever the need was and we as project leaders are proud of all of the work that was accomplished this week and all of the relationships that were built.

This morning our AIM videographer, Ben Hershey, shared his story with the team during the devotional time and the focus was on living a God directed life. As we finished out this day, we continued to pour into the team and encourage them that this was only the beginning. Life is mission. Being on mission and living a God directed life doesn’t stop when you leave here.

After this the teams split up again for morning ministry, we had two Habitat for Humanity groups today, one that went back to the house building site and one team that went to the Restore where they then split into an indoor organizing team and outdoor tree clearing team. The tree clearing team was meeting a felt need this week. They heard earlier in the week that a tree had fallen at their Restore location and they didn’t know when they would be able to get it removed so this team jumped into action and orchestrated a way to meet this need and to really help Habitat for Humanity be able to continue the work they are doing here in Hilton Head. The rest of our team stayed here at Providence and did some log splitting and rock moving. Most of the younger kids from the team stayed here at the church work due to their age, but they continued to keep a good attitude and never complained about not getting to go off campus like some of the others.

In the afternoon, we finished up with a team going to Children’s Center one final time, a team going back to the Restore, and finally a team here wrapping up with log splitting and cleaning the church campus.

We were able to enjoy our final dinner together before we all walked down to the beach for a final debrief where the team was able to discuss where they saw God show up. One of their group leaders actually shared his testimony with the team tonight. He was nervous but said seeing the kids share at church the night before inspired him to step out in faith and share his story.

It is amazing to see how simple acts of obedience act as a spark and a catalyst for further acts of obedience. The team was able to grow in community this week and to see God show up in the people they met and the work they did throughout the week.

We pray for the team as they will be heading back home on Saturday for safe travels and that what happened here in Hilton Head doesn’t stay here in Hilton Head. We are praying that these youth and leaders continue to pursue God in all they do and continue to live their life on mission for Him.
