Bert fixing a grandfather clock

Bert fixing a grandfather clock

He’s 81 years old. He has been married for over 60 years. He’s a military veteran. He has accumulated a lifetime of hands-on experiences.  He has gone on countless short term ministry trips. His friends say that he brings joy wherever he goes and with whomever he is with.  His name is Bert.

Bert’s ability to fix anything or to do whatever was tested on Hilton Head by broken screens and by a grandfather clock that had stopped keeping time at the retirement center, by a power mower that had not been started for a long time at the first house and by a riding mower that had been left in disrepair at the second house and by a storage room that desperately needed someone to take out everything that had been thrown into it and then to have everything put back into it in an orderly way at the children’s center.

A broken grandfather clock now keeps perfect time, two malfunctioning mowers now cut grass and a ramshackled storage room now has everything in it in place.  No matter how old someone may be who goes on a short term ministry trip there will always be something that he or she can do.  Just ask Bert and his very capable hands.
