Why would you go to a place like Hilton Head on a mission trip?
Beauty, beach, sights, fancy restaurants; Paradise.
Missions is not necessarily about what kind of location you go to but it’s more about the people you are going to see in that location.
Since 2012 this is the current population of the very small island, Hilton Head:
38,366
This does not count the visitors that come to experience this lovely island from all over the states.
Picture this:
You’re out on a beach and see a family that is well to do. Maybe not be poor physically but their spirits are hungry. You start playing ball with their teenage son or daughter. You share some stuff about yourself and then strike up a conversation with the family. You get to hear them share a bit about their life and you get to pray for them. You even get to share your story of knowing Jesus as a friend. They head back to their hometown that is, say, from the mid-west. They take back home the seed you planted into them to possibly be sown into their hometown.
You get to spread your love for Christ in a small area and yet reach out to larger places.
There’s so much joy in the people of Hilton Head but still they are in need of hearing of Christ’s love. To be in a beautiful place is wonderful but of course the busyness of the environment and materialistic glory is enough to make someone neglect the acknowledgment of Christ and the gifts that He has to offer to us.
Come to Hilton Head and see His heart for this piece of paradise that still needs the Kingdom of God in so many ways!
