Hilton Head 2014!!! Let me tell you…this island is BEAUTIFUL. From the palm tree lined roads, to the white sandy beaches, to the gorgeous pink sky in the evenings. The Eastminster Presbyterian Church team arrived Sunday evening tired from the long drive, but super excited to get started on a week of service and fun. Monday morning we kicked things off right by heading out to the local ministries.

We got to spend several days serving at Bloom and Memory Matters, both assisted living organizations dedicated to memory care for the elderly. The residents absolutely LOVED seeing our team of young people coming to hang out with them. One day, one of the students had the awesome idea of starting a sing-a-long with the residents at Bloom. They were so encouraged by having a bunch of teenagers joyfully singing out with them the lyrics of Amazing Grace and other old hymns.

Another day, the residents hosted their weekly wheel chair work out. The team assisted them and worked along side them as they sang and exercised with a little more fun than usual. This brings more joy than you can imagine to the elderly people who spend most of their days with the staff and other residents, rarely getting the opportunity to smile and laugh along with youth who are full of excitement and energy. As we reminded the students daily, that impact matters. It matters more than we can possibly understand. And we know that our God is receiving great glory from this youth group’s willingness to go out and love the needy and lonely.

  1. I’m glad you all had a good time! It sounds like you were areal blessing to the elderly and that touches God’s heart. Thanks!
