First ocean sightings, and our gifts at work
All of our team arrived to Hilton Head pn Saturday after long drives, and we connected at our temporary church home together on Sunday night. First impressions of this awesome location included Kastle and Chapel seeing the ocean for the first time (it is just 6 minutes away)- the vastness and the beauty of the Alantic was one of the first ways God ministered to us :). This picture below is looking back towards the island at dusk.
As nightfall came, we made friends with each other and quickly settled in. As we walked back from the the 'shower house', a snake was spotted just under where we were passing! The team was alarmed, but its markings did not indicate danger, so we left it alone and moved on to bed.. Spiders were also no feat. For the brave men and women from Illinois, Texas and Colorado. Nothing would deter them from serving the Lord! I really was excited abo this team. We also have Curran, resident biologist who is quick to assess insects, animals and share vast amounts of information with everyone about them.
Monday was our first day of ministry, and we wasted no time diving in at the Carolina Senior home. Elyece had prayed for her gifts to be used, and when we got there, an exercise class was about to start–she used to lead such classes and was able to bless the staff there by helping out (when we left, Jenny said she had learned a great deal from Elyece and was so grateful, and the residents were flirting with her before we left!). We had a team out in the hot weather clean and prime some downtrodden chairs so we could paint them on Tuesday and give the furniture a facelift. Others on the team visited with residents, sang to them, bowled on the Wii with them, and prayed. Stories of rich lives, and connections of the heart were made.
In the afternoon we headed to the Boys and Girls club, and supported the skeleton staff that day in engaging some of the 250 participants that day. Our team artist connected in the art room, one of our singers was in the recording area with the teens, a cheerleader was teaching the young girls some new cheers, and relationships quickly were being built. There was also game playing, reading and listening, and supporting the computer lab. We had an amazing day, and as we left "you're coming back tomorrow, right??" was heard many a time…
