A Wonderful First
During a visit with the elderly of the community, our group of 11 people for the day were able to connect over an intense game of bingo. It was personally my first time, and though I had some good luck, even though I didn’t win any but got close, the lady next to me won three times. Throughout the game we would comment on each other’s luck and complain about why we weren’t getting the numbers we needed. After everyone in the room felt beat by her, we split up and started to visit and hear stories from the lives of the people there. The kind lady I spoke with told me of where she lived and how she got to Hilton Head. I touched lightly on her beliefs and learned she was a protestant and spent a lot of her time after she retired volunteering for the church. She was a very kind lady and I was able to connect with her and share my own story as well. Soon enough we had to wrap up our conversations and as we did so I offered to pray for her. She gladly took my hands in hers and I said a short prayer for us. I just asked God to bless our day and thanked Him for the opportunity to meet that kind lady. She seemed to very much appreciate our time and I felt the same. Reflecting on that time, I realized it was really the first time I had prayed one on one with someone who I barely knew. It was very wonderful and I’ll remember that moment for the rest of my life.
